Adorable Fat Girl and the Mysterious Invitation by Bernice Bloom

Six people are invited to a funeral in a remote Welsh village.
None of them knows the deceased.
What is going on?

Mary Brown receives an invitation to a funeral. But she has absolutely no idea who the deceased is. She’s told that he invited her on his deathbed, and he’s very keen for her to attend, so she heads off to a dilapidated old farm house in a remote part of Wales. When she gets there she discovers that only five other people have been invited to the funeral. None of them know who he is either.

Then they are told that they have 20 hours to work out why they have been invited in order to inherit a million pounds.

Who is this guy and why are they there? And what of the ghostly goings on in the ancient old building?

This is book 9 of the Adorable Fat Girl books. However each book stands alone very well. There are a few references to Mary’s past but you really do not need to read them all. However if you do like to follow the transformation of a character then I think it would be a benefit to read them in order – details below.

Having already read, and loved Diary of an Adorable Fat Girl (book #1) I was intending to read the books in order BUT then I saw tweets referring to the release of this book I just had to buy it!

The book I had read before was a typical easy read rom com – very funny but still just a romcom type of read. That’s kinda what I was expecting from this. However it is so much more.  This is a very well-written mystery, with a gripping plot that even as the reader with more information than the characters it still kept me wondering how it would all work our.

The author describes the setting and characters very well and in a light-hearted chick-lit way but you are aware from the very start that there is a serious side to this book and the author keeps the pace moving at just the right speed.  As a reader I was intriged at the author’s ability to pull together a complicated story. Don’t worry, I will not say anymore here as I don’t want to give away any of the plot.  The author has done something very very clever and once it all becomes clear you will realise what a moving and wonderful story we have witnessed.

Hello, my name is Bernice Bloom and I am a writer (I write light-hearted rom-com style novels and also work as a magazine journalist and advertising copywriter) and jewellery designer.

My recent series of novels is called ‘Adorable Fat Girl’ and it features a heavily overweight woman called Mary Brown. She is bright, funny, friendly and bonkers. She’s also fat. The books blend the comedy of her efforts to lose weight with a more serious backstory about what happened to her in the past that had led to the issues that make her prone to over-eating.

I’m fascinated that there are so few overweight heroines in literature. Women can be manipulative, evil, even murderers in fiction, but not fat! Certainly not fat and beautiful with loads of friends! Then along came Mary and she’s developed quite a fan base of people who love the fact that the heroine is large. She gets lots of letters and I have ended up taking her on lots of adventures!
