My Review
I genuinely enjoyed every minute I spent reading The Sandycove Knitting Circle. Although the story begins in Boston, it wasn’t long before I found myself completely at home in Sandycove amongst its welcoming community, becoming more invested with every chapter. Warm, uplifting and full of heart, it was one of those books I simply didn’t want to end.
Watching Kerry-Anne slowly come to terms with the loss of her best friend, while also facing the reality that the future she thought she wanted was never really right for her, made for an uplifting and rewarding journey. Rather than dwelling on sadness, the story gently explores healing, friendship and finding the courage to embrace new beginnings. There are emotional moments throughout, but the overwhelming feeling the novel leaves behind is one of hope.
It was the people of Sandycove who completely stole my heart. Every person Kerry-Anne meets adds something special to the story, and together they create a wonderfully welcoming village. They felt exactly as you would hope to find in a close-knit seaside community where neighbours know one another, friendships run deep and nobody is left to face life’s challenges alone. Their warmth, humour and willingness to open both their homes and their hearts made Sandycove feel like somewhere I would happily move to myself.
The pacing was just right, allowing relationships to develop naturally and giving every storyline the time it deserved. Nothing felt rushed, and I loved watching Kerry-Anne gradually find herself as she became part of village life. The knitting circle itself becomes so much more than a shared hobby, representing friendship, purpose and the strength that can be found when people come together.
Having previously visited Sandycove through Sian O’Gorman’s earlier novels, returning to this wonderful seaside community felt like catching up with old friends. Although each book stands perfectly well on its own, there is something incredibly comforting about revisiting a place that always feels so welcoming. Once again, Sandycove became somewhere I wished really existed—a place where friendship, laughter and a true sense of belonging have the power to heal even the deepest hurts.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable, feel-good read that left me smiling long after I turned the final page. Full of heart, hope and memorable characters, The Sandycove Knitting Circle is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the family we find, the friendships we make and the places we least expect can become exactly what we need. I certainly wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Sandycove. If only it were a real place, I think we’d all want to visit whenever life called for the healing power of friendship.
