Amok by Sebastian Fitzek (audible)

An Audible Original Drama

FINALIST: The Audie Awards 2016

This was to be her last day alive. The renowned criminal psychologist Ira Samin prepared her suicide thoroughly. The death of her eldest daughter had weighed too heavily on her conscience for her to carry on and she yearned for one last drink to raise a toast to oblivion. Her morbid plans are interrupted and she is called in to negotiate a gruesome hostage situation at a radio station where a psychopath is playing a morbid game.

While the show is on air, he calls people from the phonebook at random. If they pick up the phone with a certain slogan, a hostage is set free. If they don’t, then the hostage is unceremoniously shot. The man threatens to continue playing this game until his fiancée arrives at the studio. The only problem is that his fiancée died several months ago….

AMOK is a gripping audiodrama and tense psychological hostage thriller set in a Berlin Radio Station, from the internationally renowned author of the best-selling Audible Original Drama The Child.

MOMOBOOKDIARY REVIEW

This was a new experience for me. I’ve enjoyed audiobooks before but have never experienced anything like this.  Instead of one voice reading the book it was a whole cast – a top-quality FABULOUS cast – who brought the characters to life in a new and exciting way. This production, or should I say drama, with a whole cast of actors plus accompanying sound effects was one a whole new level of entertainment.

This drama was based on the novel, Amok by German author Sebastian Fitzek, and was the first Audible drama I listened to and loved every minute of it.  I have since listened to The Child which was written by the same author.  Review to follow.

The tension is constantly maintained at an almost unbearable level with twists coming thick and fast making this a truly captivating experience.

Highly recommended listening!

  1. Wow thanks for this review. I’m straight off to Audible now – thought might need to wait for a sunny spring day to listen to it, as it sounds a bit scary! Excellent review 😀

    1. It’s a good one to listen to whilst doing housework – but wouldn’t advise driving as it takes up all your attention 🙂
