Our Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune

Two best friends. Seven days in paradise. One last chance to fall in love or fall apart.

Frankie and George have been best friends since they were eight. They’ve always clashed and come back together – it’s what they do. Until now. On the eve of her wedding, Frankie doesn’t know where they stand or even if George will show up as her best man.

As she loses hope, in walks George. For one glorious evening, Frankie’s life is finally perfect. But it all comes crashing down when her fiancé dumps her the next morning, leaving only a note behind.

Crushed and confused, Frankie only wants to wallow. But George has a different idea. He wants her to go on her honeymoon. With him. For one week, to the lush rainforests and misty beaches of Tofino.

Frankie agrees, seeing the trip for what it really is: one last chance to repair their friendship. Even if it means unearthing secrets and long buried feelings neither knows how to handle. Even if it means falling apart for good.

Review

Completely Swept Away by the Storm

This was one of those books that caught my eye on NetGalley and instantly went onto my need to read list – and honestly, I had no idea just how much I was going to feel this story.

From the very first pages, Carley Fortune pulls you in completely. While the story doesn’t begin in Tofino, it’s where the heart of the book truly unfolds -and what a setting it is. I’ve been lucky enough to visit other parts of Canada before, but never this side, and now? I felt completely transported there while reading. The way it’s written, you don’t just picture it—you experience it. The beaches, the rainforest, the atmosphere… it all felt so vivid and immersive. I’ve never made it over to Vancouver Island, and reading this genuinely felt like the closest I’ve come to being there. It even gave me that same lush, scenic atmosphere you get in Virgin River. But as gorgeous as the setting is, it’s the story and characters that really make this one unforgettable.

Frankie and George’s relationship is messy, complicated, and completely real. That kind of friendship that’s never been simple – but has always meant something. Watching them navigate everything – old history, unspoken feelings, and the weight of what they could lose – was equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking.

And the emotion? It’s everywhere.

This book doesn’t just tug on your heart – it properly settles in and makes itself at home. There were moments that were genuinely hard to read, not because they weren’t good, but because they hit too close. By the final third, I had tears in my eyes more often than not – sometimes because of what was happening on the page, sometimes because of the memories it stirred up.

I was completely wrapped up in it. One more chapter turned into just one more… and before I knew it, it was 4am, I’d gone through more cups of tea than I care to admit, and I still couldn’t put it down. Totally worth it though – there’s something quite perfect about finishing a book like this in the quiet of the early morning and then falling into the most peaceful sleep after.

I’ll admit, I hadn’t come across Carley Fortune before this – but that’s actually turned out to be a bit of a gift. Because now I’ve got a whole backlist waiting for me, and they’re already safely sitting on my Kindle for those moments when I just need to disappear into a story and come back out feeling a little lighter, a little calmer, and a lot more emotionally satisfied.
