If you’re looking for a laugh-out-loud, entertaining read, Adventures with Orkney Uncovered by Kinlay Francis is an absolute gem! Having spent years visiting Orkney and following Kinlay’s stories, I can confidently say this book is packed with witty anecdotes, absurdly funny questions, and some genuinely touching moments that showcase the charm of Orkney in the most delightful way.
Kinlay’s job as a tour guide seems like the ultimate mix of fun and frustration – one minute you’re chuckling at outlandish questions (think “Do you have implants for your eyes to make it lighter?”) and the next you’re hearing fascinating stories about the island’s history and hidden gems. Kinlay’s ability to weave humor with insightful local knowledge makes this book a must-read for anyone with a soft spot for Orkney.
As someone who’s visited the island many times, this book brought back memories of my time there.
