Leonora Bolt: Secret Inventor is a madcap, STEM-themed adventure published by Puffin (Penguin Random House) and with illustrations by Gladys Jose. Leonora Bolt: Deep Sea Calamity is the equally silly sequel.

I absolutely loved this book. I received a few copies from the publisher as I had signed up to join “The Book Fairies” campaign day (26 January 2022) were we hide copies of the books around our local area for others to discover and enjoy. Head over to www.ibelieveinbookfairies.com to read more about The Book Fairies. There are photos of the locations chosen by the bookfairies to hide these wonderful books – click here.
Anyways, the books arrived with a few days to spare and as soon as I saw the cover illustration I knew it was one I had to read before it was time to hide the books outside. I read it in a single sitting!
It is brilliantly written. The story flows with lots of proper laugh out loud funny bits. The illustrations are wonderful and very engaging as part of the story.
This is definitely a book I would recommend. For those younger children who are just on the point of moving from picture books to chapter books this would fit perfectly as it is a chapter book but it has many many illustrations which mean the chapters are short and fun!
Leonora is a great role model and a genius inventor. Leonora is living with her uncle and his housekeeper as her parents are not around yet despite her life not being as good as it could be, she certainly knows what she wants and puts her talents to good use!
