Waking in the night, Jenny discovers the woman dead in her cabin … but there’s no sign of the little girl. The train company have no record of a child being booked on the train, and CCTV shows the dead woman boarding alone.
The police don’t believe Jenny, and soon she tries to put the incident out of her head and tells herself that everyone else is right: she must have imagined the little girl.
But deep down, she knows that isn’t the truth.

About the Author
Mason Cross is a British crime novelist, born in Glasgow in 1979 and now living near the city with his wife and three children. He studied English at the University of Stirling and, before becoming a full-time author, worked in a variety of roles including as a tax officer, project manager and even a pizza delivery boy. His debut novel, The Killing Season, was longlisted for the 2015 Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year, while his second novel, The Samaritan, was selected for the Richard & Judy Book Club. He has also written short stories for publications including Ellery Queen.

My Review
I purchased this kindle book knowing I was going to be attending Train Noir – Edinburgh (see below link for details) and I am so glad I did. It’s brilliant and kept me guessing right to the end. I have not read any other Mason Cross (MJ Cross) books but I will be looking out for them after this one.
Thoroughly enjoyable thriller with some brilliant twists which had me second-guessing what I thought was about to happen. There are two main characters which I found myself drawn to and I found myself surprised by some of the twists in the story and I liked that the book focused on the thriller story and didn’t get caught up in side stories like so many books do. You learn enough about the characters to be able to picture them but not too much that you are wishing the author would get on with the story. This book does not delay the action at all.
I was on edge the whole way through the book and read it in less than 24 hours. I loved the scene where they were running around the busy London traffic just as much as the time spend in the Scottish countryside.
Loved every minute of this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good suspense thriller – but maybe not for anyone who travels on the sleeper…
I am excited to be attending the Train Noir – Edinburgh event on 25th November. SJI Holliday’s Violet takes us on a trip on the Trans-Siberian Express, but one of the passengers is not who they claim to be. Meanwhile, MJ Cross begins What She Saw Last Night with a death on the Caledonian Sleeper and a mystery to unravel.
