Lori Anderson series #1
Lori Anderson is as tough as they come, managing to keep her career as a fearless Florida bounty hunter separate from her role as single mother to nine-year-old Dakota, who suffers from leukaemia. But when the hospital bills start to rack up, she has no choice but to take her daughter along on a job that will make her a fast buck. And that’s when things start to go wrong. The fugitive she’s assigned to haul back to court is none other than JT, Lori’s former mentor – the man who taught her everything she knows … the man who also knows the secrets of her murky past.
Not only is JT fighting a child exploitation racket operating out of one of Florida’s biggest amusement parks, Winter Wonderland, a place where ‘bad things never happen’, but he’s also mixed up with the powerful Miami Mob. With two fearsome foes on their tails, just three days to get JT back to Florida, and her daughter to protect, Lori has her work cut out for her. When they’re ambushed at a gas station, the stakes go from high to stratospheric, and things become personal.
Breathtakingly fast-paced, both hard-boiled and heart-breaking, Deep Down Dead is a simply stunning debut from one of the most exciting new voices in crime fiction.
MOMOBOOKDIARY REVIEW
OMG!!! This book completely blew my mind!
I wish I could tell everyone to STOP whatever they are doing right now and read this!
It has everything I love in a book. It held my attention from the opening page and didn’t let me go until the end – and then I just sat open-mouthed and thought WOW… What can I say? It is fast paced, gripping, full of suspense and intrigue. It does not let up in speed or tension at all – ever.
Lori is a kick-ass bounty hunter – much better than any superhero I’ve read about before! I wouldn’t want to ever be on her wrong side! She is the type of woman who will stop at nothing to protect those she loves, especially Dakota, her nine-year-old daughter who has leukaemia. The only way Lori can pay the mounting medical bills for Dakota’s hospital treatments is to take a high-paying job out of state however it is not going to be easy – I fear nothing ever is in Lori’s life!
Lori’s job as bounty hunter is to travel from Florida to West Virginia collect James Robert Tate – JT – and return him to Florida. The problem was JT – he was Lori’s mentor from years ago and they hadn’t spoken in almost a decade. The bigger problem was Lori had no-one to look after Dakota while she was gone so would have to take her along… what could go wrong??
I cannot describe the level of emotions I felt whilst reading this book. It really gets the adrenaline going! The author is excellent at describing each scene as it happens which gives the true feeling of actually being there in the car with them. It was almost like watching it on TV.
I read on the authors website that she trained as a bounty hunter whilst researching for this book and you can tell. The scenes are so vivid and real and scary – WOW I am completely blown away today!
I’ve had both Lori Anderson books on my kindle for a while and can’t believe I have not read them before now! However, I am already well into the follow-up book DEEP BLUE TROUBLE and will review that one very soon. I have applied to be on #TeamLori which is the advanced reader group for book three DEEP DIRTY TRUTH and I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed (no matter how bad the cramp gets!)
