Thank you to Janey Clarke, Blossom Spring Publishing, and Zooloo’s Book Tours for including me on this book tour and for providing a copy of the digital edition of this western saga to read and review. It’s a great series and I am so pleased to have been able to enjoy each book in the series so far.
As always, this review reflects my honest thoughts.
About the book
In the heart of the wild West, beneath the shadow of the treacherous Devil’s Mountain, danger lurks at every turn. When whispers of a hidden mine—where bandits enslave innocent boys and men—reach Josh and Amy, they are drawn into a perilous quest for justice. But the ruthless outlaws aren’t their only threat. A cunning assassin has set his sights on Josh, and with Amy’s help, he’s determined to unmask his relentless stalker before it’s too late.
As the sheriff’s posse closes in on the bandits’ stronghold, the unforgiving terrain tests their every step, while bullets fly and darkness conceals deadly secrets. Meanwhile, Amy faces a lethal encounter of her own, forced to outwit an enemy with nothing but her wits and sheer will to survive.
Cassidy, a mysterious beauty with violet eyes, arrives in the frontier town of Nowhere with her scarred companion, Martha. As bodies bearing cryptic notes appear at the sheriff’s doorstep and earth tremors shake the town, Cassidy and Josh form an uneasy alliance. When survival and justice collide, they must navigate a web of deceit, danger, and deadly forces lurking in the shadows.

My Review
Sometimes you discover a series that feels completely outside of your usual comfort zone, yet you fall head over heels for it anyway. That’s exactly what’s happened to me with Janey Clarke’s Devil’s Mountain Dames saga. A Secret Vengeance, book four in the series, carries the story forward with the same grit, danger, and heartfelt character moments that I’ve come to love.
We’re once again thrown into the peril of the Wild West, where Josh and Amy face deadly threats from outlaws, hidden mines, and a mysterious assassin determined to take Josh down. The stakes are high, but what I love most about these books is that they aren’t just about danger and action — they’re about loyalty, resilience, courage, and that unshakeable determination to do what’s right, no matter how impossible it seems.
One moment early in this book really made me laugh and reminded me just how much heart Janey Clarke weaves into her writing. Slim’s absolute outrage at being asked to transport a piano over Devil’s Mountain’s foothills had me grinning from ear to ear. Even today, moving a piano is a massive task — so picturing it being hauled on an old wagon across rough terrain was just brilliant. A perfect touch of humour before plunging us back into the darker, more dangerous parts of the story.
What keeps drawing me back to this series is how alive the characters feel. Josh and Amy are a partnership I’ve grown so attached to, but I also love how new characters like Cassidy add fresh intrigue and mystery. There’s always another layer waiting to be uncovered, another danger lurking in the shadows — and yet moments of lightness and humanity shine through.
Janey Clarke has created something truly special with this saga. The Wild West setting feels vivid and unforgiving, the action scenes are gripping, and the emotional core keeps me invested from start to finish. It’s so different from my usual reads, but I am honestly loving every single book in this series — and I cannot wait to see where the story goes next.
