The Keeper of Stories

Sally Page

About the book:

Everyone has a story to tell but does Janice have the courage to unlock her own…

She can’t recall what started her collection. Maybe it was in a fragment of conversation overheard as she cleaned a sink? Before long (as she dusted a sitting room or defrosted a fridge) she noticed people were telling her their stories. Perhaps they always had done, but now it is different, now the stories are reaching out to her and she gathers them to her…

When Janice starts cleaning for Mrs B – a shrewd and tricksy woman in her nineties – she meets someone who wants to hear her story. But Janice is clear: she is the keeper of stories, she doesn’t have a story to tell. At least, not one she can share. Mrs B is no fool and knows there is more to Janice than meets the eye. What is she hiding? After all, doesn’t everyone have a story to tell?

My thoughts:

If you have not read this book yet, then I suggest you get yourself a copy and read it – you will not be disappointed! It is absolutely wonderful. It is full of delightful characters and lovely moments that will have you laughing, or crying – it’s just delightful. There are stories within stories and each story brings it’s own emotions. This is a compelling novel which held my attention throughout. I especially loved the relationship between Janice and Mrs B … what a pair!

I read the paperback edition, which had been gifted by my good friend Louise Gooding.

After you have read the book, take time to think about your own story. What is your story? The photo I have used for this post contains items important to my own story….

I found the section where we learn more about Janice and her husband, Mike. It had me proper belly laughing as it reminded me of my ex-partner who has all the same traits as Mike… these men walk amongst us!
