My Review Approach

I aim to publish honest, thoughtful reviews of the books I read, whether they are gifted review copies or books I have purchased or borrowed myself. All reviews reflect my personal reading experience and opinions at the time of reading.

I strive to keep reviews spoiler-free, focusing on tone, themes, characters, and overall enjoyment rather than plot details.

Star Ratings

I use a ⭐️ star rating system on my blog to give readers a quick indication of how a book landed with me. These ratings are based on my personal scale and should be read as a guide rather than a definitive judgement. Rating systems can vary between platforms such as Amazon, Goodreads, or StoryGraph.

Where relevant, I may also expand on why a book earned its rating within the review itself.

My Ratings

The star ratings on my blog reflect my personal reading experience with each book — always honest and from the heart.

I choose to share reviews for books I’ve rated three stars or higher. If a book isn’t the right fit for me, I prefer to step aside quietly rather than post a public review.

You may notice slight differences between my ratings here and on platforms such as Amazon or Goodreads, where star scales can be interpreted differently (for example, three stars is often viewed as negative on Amazon). If I enjoyed a book overall but had a few small quibbles, it may appear as a three-star read here and a four-star rating elsewhere.

At the end of the day, I simply want to share the books that resonated with me — and maybe help you discover a new favourite along the way.

My Ratings Explained

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Five Stars: Outstanding! Highly recommended — may appear as four stars elsewhere.
Absolutely loved it — a book I’d happily reread, rave about, and probably press into friends’ hands.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Four Stars: Really enjoyed it — ratings elsewhere may vary.
A solid, satisfying read that I’d confidently recommend to others.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Three Stars: Enjoyable, but didn’t quite click
There were elements I enjoyed, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. A perfectly pleasant read — just not one that fully stayed with me.

Books I Choose to Review

While I read widely and keep an open mind, I generally choose to feature books I rate three stars or above on the blog. I prefer to focus on books I enjoy and feel able to recommend to readers.

If a book I’ve agreed to review does not feel like the right fit, I will contact the requesting author, publisher, or publicist privately rather than posting a public review.

My intention is always to be fair, respectful, and constructive, acknowledging the time, effort, and creativity that goes into every book.

Constructive & Unfinished Reads

If a book isn’t working for me, I aim to offer balanced feedback that recognises both strengths and areas that didn’t resonate, if a review is posted.

In the rare case that I’m unable to finish a book I’ve agreed to review, I will contact the relevant party before making a final decision about whether or how the book will be featured.

Disclosure & Transparency

Some books reviewed on this blog are provided as advance or review copies by authors, publishers, or via platforms such as NetGalley. Others are books I have purchased, borrowed, or already owned.

Receiving a review copy does not influence my opinions. As always, my thoughts are honest and my own.

Individual posts include a disclosure note clarifying how the book was accessed.

Formats Accepted

I prefer paperback or hardback editions, as I enjoy the physical reading experience. However, I am also happy to review digital editions (Kindle) where physical copies are not available.

Audiobooks may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Review Timescales

Review timescales are discussed on a book-by-book basis to ensure each title receives the time and attention it deserves. I do not offer guaranteed publication dates unless agreed in advance.

Preferred Genres

I’m particularly drawn to:

  • Mystery and crime thrillers
  • Psychological suspense
  • Romance

I enjoy balancing darker, twisty reads with lighter, comforting stories. While historical sagas and non-fiction history are not usually my first choice, I’m always open to considering books that genuinely spark my interest.
