He’s the monster from her nightmares. When Daniella rescues elderly Peggy from a mugger on a Boston street, she expects nothing in return. But then she meets Peggy’s son, Lucas—devastatingly handsome and utterly captivating. Unlike her distant husband Grant, Lucas sees her. Wants her.
Daniella can’t resist and they spend one reckless night together which she immediately regrets.
Too late, because Lucas doesn’t just want Daniella. He needs her. And he’s willing to destroy everything—and everyone—standing in his way.
Lucas plays the long game, worming his way into Daniella’s life—befriending Grant, charming her twin daughters, inveigling his way into her family. Every time she turns around, he seems to be there.
As the depths of his obsession become clear, Daniella realizes she’s in a fight for her life. Because the family she tried to help is hiding something dark. Something deadly.
And she’s already in too deep to escape.

My Review
A Tense and Unsettling Psychological Thriller That Builds the Suspense
Some thrillers rely on shocking twists, while others quietly build an atmosphere of unease that grows stronger with every chapter. This story definitely falls into the latter category, creating a steadily increasing sense that something isn’t quite right.
What I enjoyed most about this book was the way the tension develops through subtle moments rather than constant dramatic revelations. From early on there’s an underlying discomfort that lingers in the background, and that feeling gradually intensifies as the story unfolds. As the situation becomes more complicated, the atmosphere grows increasingly unsettling, creating a strong sense of anticipation about where everything might lead.
The characters felt believable and well established, which made the emotional stakes feel genuine. It’s easy to imagine how someone might slowly become caught in a situation that begins innocently enough but gradually becomes far more dangerous than expected. That growing sense of vulnerability adds a real emotional edge to the story as the tension continues to escalate.
The settings also worked well for the narrative. The different locations were clearly described without overwhelming the pace of the story, helping the scenes feel vivid while still allowing the thriller elements to move forward quickly.
There were a couple of moments where I did pause and think, “Surely no one would actually do that…” — but that’s part of the fun of fiction. Thrillers often push situations further than real life might, and in this case those moments simply added to the heightened drama of the story.
Overall, this was a fast-paced and engaging psychological thriller. The steadily building tension, unsettling atmosphere, and believable characters made it an entertaining and gripping read. If you enjoy thrillers that gradually tighten the suspense and keep you wondering just how far things might go, this is definitely one I’d recommend picking up.
