About the Author

Kate Delaney is a hypnotherapist, mindfulness coach, and the creator of The FREED Method, a simple five-step process to release negative emotions quickly and effectively. Drawing on over a decade of clinical experience and her personal journey through Lyme disease—which left her bed bound for five years—Kate helps people regain emotional clarity and resilience in minutes.

Once an environmental researcher and adventurer flying light aircraft and conducting fieldwork in Belize, Kate’s life changed dramatically due to illness. Trapped in her body, she discovered the power of the mind to process and release even the most overwhelming emotions. From this, she developed The FREED Method, now used by hundreds of clients to overcome stress, anxiety, and emotional burnout.

Kate holds a PhD in Environmental Science and professional qualifications in hypnotherapy, executive coaching, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, EMDR, NLP, and Emotional Freedom Technique. She regularly speaks to organisations and runs workshops, helping audiences release emotional blocks and build resilience.

The FREED Method is her first book, offering a practical, science-backed framework for letting go of hurt, fear, guilt, and anger—turning adversity into insight and empowered action.

My review

FREED by Kate Delaney is one of those self-help books that genuinely feels like a gift.

From the very first chapter, there’s a calm reassurance woven into every page — the sense that you’re being guided by someone who not only understands emotional overwhelm but has truly walked the path out of it.

What stood out most to me is how usable this book is. The FREED method is laid out with such clarity that it never feels clinical or overwhelming. Each step encourages gentle reflection, helping you notice your patterns, soften resistance, and move through difficult emotions with far more compassion for yourself. The exercises are practical, grounding, and incredibly easy to return to — the kind you reach for instinctively on days that feel a bit heavier.

One exercise that really stayed with me was “Emotional Hijack” The way Kate explains how to breathe when you feel like you can’t — followed by that drawing of the wave — made something click for me. It gave me a clear mental image to latch onto, and it made the process feel far more achievable than the breathing exercises I’ve tried before. Such a simple explanation, yet so effective.

Kate Delaney’s voice is warm, steady, and deeply authentic. Her blend of personal experience and professional expertise creates a sense of trust that’s rare in self-help. Rather than telling you how to “fix” yourself, she guides you toward understanding and supporting yourself — and that difference makes the whole experience feel empowering rather than prescriptive. I found myself slowing down as I read, taking notes, and genuinely absorbing the wisdom she shares. It’s a book that invites you to grow without pressure and to breathe without guilt.

And, like with a great many of the books I rate 5 stars, I immediately bought the digital edition so I can keep it on my Kindle for future rereads. But with FREED, I felt compelled to go even further — I also purchased the paperback so I can annotate it, mark the passages that resonate, and keep it close at hand. Even though the digital version is always with me on my phone, having a physical copy feels essential for this one.

A beautifully written, compassionate, and truly transformative guide. I’m so glad I read it — and it’s one I’ll be recommending often.
