As always, this review is completely honest and reflects my own thoughts.
About the book
Jenna has lived in Starr’s Fall for most of her life, and has run the general store for over ten years. Secretly she might dream of love and romance, but she’s happy as she is. Really.
That is, until Starr’s Fall’s newest resident—ex-New Yorker, millionaire investment banker—Jack Wexler breezes into Jenna’s store, seemingly furious they don’t stock smoked salmon. Jenna is as amused as she is annoyed. Who is this ridiculous guy, and doesn’t he realize he’s not in Manhattan anymore?
Jack meanwhile can’t believe he lost it in public. But ever since being forced to leave his high-flying career to focus on his health, he’s not been himself. What’s more, the last person he’d expected to be attracted to is the shrew of a storekeeper he’s just encountered… which he might have called Jenna, in a moment of temper…
Neither of Jenna or Jack’s ideal of romance includes these sorts of furious sparks flying. But when they’re both roped in to organizing the town’s Winter Wonderland parade, they’re forced to work together. And as Christmas approaches – will two opposites merely attract? Or, in magical Starr’s Fall, could they fall in love for keeps?

My Review
This was my first time picking up a book by Kate Hewitt, and I honestly couldn’t have chosen a better place to start. I hadn’t realised this was the third in the Starr’s Fall series, but it works beautifully as a standalone – and I’ve already gone and bought the previous two books because I can’t wait to return to this town and spend more time with its people.
From the very first chapter, I knew this was a story I was going to love. Starr’s Fall itself is such a magical, welcoming place, with all the warmth and charm of a small town wrapped up in festive sparkle. At its heart is Jenna, who has been running the general store for years. She’s steady, dependable, and so easy to connect with – happy in her little corner of the world, even if part of her quietly longs for something more.
That “something more” arrives in the form of Jack Wexler, Starr’s Fall’s newest resident. Fresh from New York City and completely out of his depth, Jack storms into Jenna’s life with complaints about the lack of smoked salmon and a chip on his shoulder. Their first meeting had me laughing, and I loved how quickly the sparks began to fly. What starts as friction slowly turns into something far deeper.
The slow build of their relationship was just perfect for me. I adored watching Jenna and Jack grow, challenge each other, and learn to see life differently through one another’s eyes. Their chemistry is undeniable, but it’s the way they softened and balanced each other that really stole my heart. By the time Christmas approached, I was utterly invested in them both.
The pacing was gentle and steady, allowing the magic of the town, the romance, and the festive atmosphere to shine through. I loved every detail, every heartwarming scene, and every glimpse of small-town life. By the end, I wasn’t just smiling – I was already longing to dive back into this world, which is why I’ve picked up the earlier books to catch up properly on Starr’s Fall.
A truly gorgeous festive romance, full of charm, warmth, and that all-important Christmas magic. I’m so glad I discovered Kate Hewitt’s writing, and I can’t wait to see where she takes us in Starr’s Fall next.
