The Book
She invited her into her home. She shouldn’t have…
Emily: It’s been a long time since my best friend Ava stopped speaking to me. But I knew I’d find a way back in. When I hear that her daughter won’t sleep at home because of a burglary on the street, I offer to swap houses for a while. Ava is so grateful. And now I’m staying in her family home, I finally understand why she’s been avoiding me… Ava isn’t as perfect as she makes out. She’s been hiding a big secret that could ruin her idyllic life. Only now, I know all about it…
Ava: I didn’t want to let Emily back into my life, but my daughter begged me to agree to the swap. I’ll do anything for my precious girl. As I lie in Emily’s bed in her cramped apartment, I fear what she’s up to inside my home. Has she looked through my belongings? Has she found the key to the locked room in my basement? And does she know the truth about what I did?
Two friends. Two secrets. Which one is telling a deadly lie, and which is in danger?

My Review
What’s Mine Is Yours gripped me from the very first page. Right away, I knew there was something different about it – it’s a domestic thriller, yes, but with such raw emotional layers and a storyline that felt so real. I was exhausted and desperate for sleep, but I simply could not put it down until I reached the final page and learned how everything would unfold.
I didn’t guess the ending, and honestly, I’m glad I didn’t. The slow uncovering of the truth is heartbreaking in all the right ways. I found myself truly empathising with Ava and her daughter, Lexi.
At first, Lexi seems like yet another spoilt, moody youngster – but as the story progresses, you realise she’s just an eleven-year-old trying to make sense of a world full of adult secrets and complicated love. She just wants to be loved. What she doesn’t yet understand is that her mother does love her – maybe even too much – and Ava’s desperate need to protect her is what drives so much of this story’s emotional tension.
The relationship between Ava and Emily is fascinating to unravel. It’s hard to know who to trust at first – who’s telling the truth, and who’s hiding something darker. The idea of swapping homes is such a clever setup, creating an instant unease as Ava’s carefully protected world is invaded. There are so many small, subtle hints along the way, but it all leads to a conclusion that hit me far harder than I was expecting.
Leah Mercer’s writing is sharp and insightful. The way she builds character is so natural—you feel like you know these people, like you’ve heard whispers of their lives somewhere before. And that’s what makes the emotional fallout so impactful. It doesn’t feel like a story, it feels like something that could happen to someone just like you.
What’s Mine is Yours is a beautifully written, deeply emotional thriller that manages to be both tense and touching. It’s not just about lies and secrets, it’s about love, guilt, motherhood, and the things we try to hide in the name of protection. An absolute standout read that I won’t forget.

Sincere thanks to Leah Mercer, Sarah Hardy, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing the digital advanced reader copy of this novel and having me on this Virtual Book Tour.
