The British Isles through a pleasant haze

Robin Bennett

About the book:

A homage to loafing … or a guide book for reasonably lazy people.

Featuring some of the optimum places in Britain to practise the art of falling asleep whilst the world about you frets and toils.

Including a train ride, an isolation tank, cricket match, at least one library, several stunning views and the Houses of Parliament.

Pleasing sketches by the deceptively-talented-but-quite-relaxed-himself Jude Bennett Esquire.

My Review

The Good Snooze Guide to Great Britain by Robin Bennett is a delightful, whimsical read, perfect for anyone who enjoys short, engaging chapters and tranquil reflections.

Bennett takes readers on a journey through some of Great Britain’s most peaceful spots, vividly capturing the atmosphere with details like the time of day, weather, and even the quality of his naps. The playful inclusion of dreams adds a unique charm, while Jude Bennett’s illustrations beautifully bring the settings to life, adding warmth and character.

One thing I would have loved to see is the addition of maps – both an overview of Great Britain with pins marking the featured locations and localised maps of the regions discussed. This would have provided a helpful visual guide for readers wanting to follow in Bennett’s footsteps.

That said, this book remains a perfect gift for the snoozer in your life—a quirky, feel-good treat that’s sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face!

The Author

Robin Bennett’s website shares his story:

When Robin grew up he thought he wanted to be a cavalry officer until everyone else realised that putting him in charge of a tank was a very bad idea. He then became an assistant gravedigger in London. After that he had a career frantically starting businesses (everything from dog-sitting to cigars, tuition to translation)… until finally settling down to write improbable stories to keep his children from killing each other on long car journeys. When not writing or starting companies, Robin plays most sports. Poorly.
