Love in the Comptons
Claire Huston
About the book:
One murder mystery weekend. Two rival sleuths.
Theyโre looking for answers. But will they find love?
Kate Brannon is delighted to be attending her first murder mystery weekend in a movie-worthy Victorian manor house. Still getting over being dumped, cracking the case would be a welcome boost to her flagging confidence. And the prize money wouldnโt hurt either.
But Kateโs dreams of victory become a nightmare with the arrival of Max Ravenscroft. Smart, enigmatic and annoyingly handsome, Max is Kateโs sleuthing nemesis. When she and Max are forced to work together, Kate despairs. But, as the investigation brings them closer, she finds being his partner in solving crime isnโt all bad.
With growing suspicions that the game is rigged against them, can Kate and Max beat the odds to find the killer? And, as their partnership deepens, can they find romance too?
My thoughts:
Clues to You is an absolute delight, blending cosy mystery with a sweet slow-burn romance that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. Set against the backdrop of a luxurious Victorian manor during a 1930s-themed murder mystery weekend, the atmosphere was spot-on, adding layers of intrigue and charm to the story.
The murder mystery itself was complex, twisty, and kept me guessing right until the final reveal, which came as a genuine surprise. Fans of Agatha Christie will appreciate the cleverly plotted whodunnit, complete with actors playing 1930s characters. The event setting was not only fun but integral to the mystery’s appeal.
Kate and Maxโs “rivals to lovers” romance was the perfect complement to the plot. Their initial misgivings gave way to genuine connection as they teamed up to solve the mystery. Their banter and growing comfort with each other added a playful touch to the story, while the romance remained subtle, never overshadowing the murder plot.
With its well-thought-out mystery, witty dialogue, and gentle romance, Clues to You is a joy to read. Itโs ideal for fans of romcoms and cosy mysteries looking for a bit of escapism. If you’re considering picking this one upโdo it, you wonโt regret it! Highly recommended.
