About the book:

Eddie Winston is ninety years old. He has lived and he has loved, but he has never been kissed.

A true gentleman and incurable romantic, Eddie spends his days volunteering at a charity shop, where he sorts through the donations of the living and the dead, preserving letters and tokens of love along the way. It is here that he meets Bella, a troubled young woman who, aged twenty-four, has just lost the love of her life.

When Bella learns that Eddie is yet to have his first kiss, she resolves to help him finally find love, sparking an adventure that will take them to unexpected places and, they hope, bring Eddie to the moment he has waited for all his life.

As Bella helps Eddie and Eddie helps, well, everyone, a soul-stirring story of friendship and kindness unfolds as we see how those we love are never forgotten and it is never too late to try again.

My thoughts:

I just finished Eddie Winston is Looking for Love, and I’m still basking in the warmth this book gave me. As we head towards autumn, if you are in need of a feel-good story that wraps you up like a cozy blanket, this is it!

Eddie Winston is a 90-year-old volunteer at a charity shop, but don’t let his age fool you – he has more life and heart than most people half his age. When Bella, a young woman who is grieving for her boyfriend, donates some of his things, Eddie can’t help but hold onto a few items that seem too personal to just sell off. Their friendship kicks off from there, and what follows is a beautiful, funny, and touching story about finding love and connection when you least expect it.

Eddie is one of those characters who immediately wins you over. His quirky fashion sense and huge heart make him impossible not to love. And the friendship he builds with Bella? It’s one of the most wholesome relationships I’ve read in a long time. They help each other in ways that only a cross-generational friendship could, and watching their bond grow was a joy.

Marianne Cronin really knows how to write characters that stick with you. I found myself thinking about Eddie and Bella even when I wasn’t reading, which, to me, is a sign of a truly special book. The dual timeline that takes us back to Eddie’s younger years adds another layer to the story, showing us the love that got away and how it shaped who he is now.

This book made me laugh, cry, and smile so many times. It’s a reminder that it’s never too late to find love, whether it’s romantic or the deep, meaningful friendships that change our lives. I’m going to miss Eddie and Bella, and I bet you will too. If you’re looking for a heartwarming, life-affirming read, do yourself a favour and pick this one up. I adored it.
